SUMMARY:HAMBERG: CEMUS Alumni Series with Sebastian Welling\, IVL
DESCRIPTION:Sebastian Welling – Team & Project manager\, IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet \nAs part of the Life Cycle Management Group at IVL Swedish \nEnvironmental Research Institute\, Sebastian works with projects that focus on life-cycle thinking and environmental performance of products and organisations. \n Looking at products\, several aspects such as for example transportation\, energy and materials are highly relevant in order to assess the environmental impact during the whole life cycle. Impacts on an organizational level can also be analysed. This is highly important in order to reach the goals set in the Paris agreement. Whilst tackling the climate crisis\, other issues cannot be neglected. By applying a lifecycle perspective\, other environmental and social issues may also be included thereby providing a holistic picture. \n  \nWelcome to dive in to the world of Life Cycle Assessment at the CEMUS Alumni series and to find out how you can save 366.67 grams of carbon dioxide equivalents! \n  \n3 March 18:00-19:00 Hambergsalen\, Geocentrum followed by mingle in the CEMUS library

SUMMARY:KOLLABORATORIET: Wild Ink Workshop with Caroline Ross
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hands-on workshop with British artist Caroline Ross\, learning to make ink from plants\, berries\, and other materials that can be found around the city. This is an evening for people of all levels of experience.\nThis workshop is organized in collaboration with the Perspectives on Climate Change – Ecopsychology\, Art and Narratives course at CEMUS. \nWhen? March 10 at 17.15-20.00 \nWhere? Kollaboratoriet Uppsala\, Östra Ågatan 19 \nCost for material: 80 SEK for students\, 120 SEK for general public \nRegistration (max 20 people): Wild Ink Workshop registration \n\nCaroline lives and works on an island on the River Thames\, making drawings and paintings from wild and ancient materials. Although she trained as an artist for many years\, throughout most of her art school education there was no mention of the craft of making art. The materials she learned to use were something that came from an art supply shop\, with no thought as to where all those dried up plastic pens would go after they had been used. \nBut it is only in the past 200 years that coal and oil-based chemicals have provided the world of colours and tools that today’s art students take for granted. For 50\,000 years before that\, humans had been making art materials from earth\, minerals and plants – and it is these older traditions which Caroline invites us to learn from. \nCaroline’s own study of bushcraft\, ‘primitive technologies’\, earth skills\, early and pre-Renaissance art techniques led her into a new way of working\, reskilling and rewilding her artistic practice. Since 2016\, she has been bringing her ‘shadow-making basket’ of materials and skills to share with others at festivals\, workshops and courses. In the course of the session\, you will have the chance to try making ink\, quills and brushes\, as well as ochre paint. \nRead more: https://carolineross.co.uk/

SUMMARY:BERTIL HAMMER: Fritjof Capra and guests “The Science of Leonardo da Vinci”
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to an open afternoon with Fritjof Capra and guests titled “The Science of Leonardo da Vinci”\nThis event is organized in collaboration with the Sigtuna Foundation\, Agora for Biosystems and CEMUS.\n\nDate and time: Thursday March 12 at kl. 13.00-17.00 (note 13.00 sharp)\nVenue: Bertil Hammer Lecture Hall\, Blåsenhus\, von Kramers allé 1 (click to see detailed map)\nRegistration: http://doit.medfarm.uu.se/kurt15766 \n  \nAbout the event\nLast year it was 500 years since the Renaissance man and universal genius Leonardo da Vinci died. Leonardo is perhaps best known as an artist\, but he also made great contributions as architect\, engineer\, inventor\, mathematician\, philosopher\, and scientist. Fritjof Capra has written two books on the scientific writings and drawings of Leonardo\, which reveals a groundbreaking science of living forms\, which can be seen as a forerunner of today’s complexity and systems theories. It is a science that honors and respects the unity of life\, recognizes the fundamental interdependence of all natural phenomena\, and reconnects us with the living Earth. At this seminar\, Fritjof Capra will present these ideas\, together with some broader perspectives on Leonardo and the Renaissance\, given by Uno Svedin\, Nina Burton\, and Alf Linderman. \n  \n\n\nProgram\n13:00 Welcoming: Alf Linderman (Sigtunastiftelsen)\, Hans Liljenström (SLU and Agora for Biosystems) and Daniel Mossberg (CEMUS)\n13:15 Fritjof Capra: Leonardo and his science\n14:15	Break\n14:30 Uno Svedin: Reflections on Leonardo da Vinci\, his time\, and our time\n15:00 Coffee break\n15:30	Nina Burton and Alf Linderman Dialogue on the Renaissance\n16:00 Panel and questions from the audience\n17:00	End\n\n\n\nAbout Fritjof Capra\nFritjof Capra is a physicist and systems scientist\, and is the author of a number of highly acknowledged books\, such as The Tao of Physics (1975)\, The Web of Life (1996)\, and The Science of Leonardo (2007)\, and Learning from Leonardo (2012). He has also authored\, together with Pier Luigi Luisi\, the interdisciplinary textbook\, The Systems View of Life (2014)\, which is the basis for his online course (www.capracourse.net).\n\n\n  \nLuca Pacioli´s book De Divina Proportione illustrated by Lonardo da Vinci. Photo credit: https://www.flickr.com/photos/24469113@N07/3856691657/ Creative Commons licence: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/ \n  \nDon’t miss the one-day event with Fritjof Capra “Can systems thinking help solving our global problems?” at the Sigtuna Foundation March 14\nThe great challenge for our time is to create sustainable societies\, which not negatively affect the capacity of Nature to maintain life. This requires an ecological systems thinking and Dr. Fritjof Capra has for long developed a theory for this\, which implies that we have to view the world as a network of relations\, rather than as a machine. In this seminar\, Dr. Capra will present such a systems thinking that integrates the biological\, cognitive\, social and ecological dimensions into a theory\, unifying matter\, life\, and consciousness. He will also discuss some social and political consequences of such a perspective. Above all\, how such a systems thinking will help us handle the global crises that we and our planet are facing. Dr Capra emphasizes that all problems are interlinked and depend on each other and therefore must be solved together\, and that we have to shift focus from a quantitative to a qualitative growth. \nRead more and register: https://sigtunastiftelsen.se/events/8936/
