SUMMARY:CEFO seminar – A Green New Deal Beyond Growth with Riccardo Mastini
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our upcoming seminar titled: A Green New Deal Beyond Growth!\nWhen: November 3 kl. 10.15-12.00 \nWhere: Online via Zoom: https://uu-se.zoom.us/j/61129101298 Meeting ID: 611 2910 1298 \nThe emerging political discourse of the Green New Deal postulates the need for an active role of the State in the economy to drive the ecological transition by deploying the power of public investment and coordination. However\, a truly transformative Green New Deal must also move beyond the ‘growth paradigm’ by decreasing energy and material use in affluent countries\, decommodifying the basic necessities of life\, and democratizing economic production. \nRiccardo Mastini is a PhD Candidate at Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA)\, Autonomous University of Barcelona. Riccardo is a policy advisor for the international campaign Green New Deal for Europe. He is a member of the academic collective Research & Degrowth and of the international network Wellbeing Economy Alliance. You find his webpage here and you can follow him on Twitter and Facebook.

SUMMARY:Assessing the Role of Youth in Achieving Responsible Consumption and Production (Sustainable Development Goal 12)
DESCRIPTION:Assessing the Role of Youth in Achieving Responsible Consumption and Production (Sustainable Development Goal 12)\nA Multinational Dialogue Between Young Environmental Journalists in 27 Countries and Swedish University Students\nWhen: Monday November 16 kl. 15.00-16.30 (3.00pm – 4.30pm Central European Time (CET))\nWhere: Online via Zoom (you get the link by email before the seminar)\nRegistration: Please register online via this link https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1p2s0qhGAPa4mJAImKRClnyrJdwE8xp1-pWguVxK38Dc \n\nWhat is responsible consumption and production and how we can go about achieving it? How does this play out across the supply chain of the mining sector from producers to consumers? And what role can the youth specifically play in achieving SDG 12? \nJoin us for a multinational seminar to discuss these questions across differing geographical\, cultural and social-economic contexts. This seminar is part of the Swedish EPA and UNDP’s Young Environmental Journalists campaign which brings together young ambitious journalists\, students and practitioners focusing on environmental and human rights protection in the mining sector in Colombia\, Kenya\, Mongolia\, and Mozambique. As part of the course\, this seminar will connect the participants with students in a Swedish university context to exchange knowledge\, experiences and thoughts on achieving SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. \nThe 2020 cohort of the Young Environmental Journalists has 100 participants from 27 countries\, including Argentina\, Brazil\, Colombia\, Ecuador\, India\, Kenya\, Kyrgyzstan\, Mexico\, Mongolia\, Mozambique\, Nigeria\, Somalia\, and South Africa. \nPlease register online via this link by November 10 to secure you place in the seminar. You will then be sent a zoom link in the lead up to the seminar. \nFor more information see the Young Environmental Journalists Program website \nFor questions please contact: aaron.tuckey@naturvardsverket.se

SUMMARY:CEFO Research Seminar “New frontiers of climate governance: imagining the modern timber city“
DESCRIPTION:Climate governance must be a project of not only regulatory undertaking\, but also of deep-rooted societal and spatial (re)imagination. But how do we re-imagine our world\, who is involved\, and what is left out? In this presentation\, I explore these questions in relation to a still underexplored front of climate action: proposals for a revolution in low-carbon materials\, that seek to establish a 21st century bio–economy. Specifically\, I will do this through the emergent imaginary of the ‘plyscraper’\, which put timber skyscrapers at the heart of the vision for low-carbon living of the future. While the use of wood in construction has long been practiced (as evidenced by the red timber houses that dot the Swedish country side)\, what makes the new timber imaginary different is that it positions itself as distinctly urban and modern. But how ‘green’ is it? How does the imaginary establish timber’s green qualities and with what effect? By exploring the jostling involved in bringing this imaginary into being\, I consider a number of yet unresolved issues around establishing the green/low-carbon qualities of this new frontier of climate action\, and the broader implications for climate governance \nBregje van Veelen Researcher at Department of Earth Sciences\, Natural Resources and Sustainable Development. \nZoom Meeting Meeting ID: 685 8941 8794 \nJoin via Zoom: https://uu-se.zoom.us/j/68589418794

With amazing chocolate recipes they set the example and show that chocolate can be made in a more responsible way; in taste\, packaging and the way they build long term relationships with cocoa farmers and the way they handle an open and transparent value chain. Ynzo van Zanten\, Tony’s ‘Choco Evangelist’ will tell the story of Tony’s roadmap towards 100% slave free chocolate and how everyone can join this movement. \nRead more here: https://tonyschocolonely.com
