SUMMARY:CEMUS Library - Open: Feb 3: Beyond the World Bank - Open event with Matthew Greenslade and Gunnel Axelsson Nycander
DESCRIPTION:Warmly welcome to an open conversation and dialogue between Matthew Greenslade and Gunnel Axelsson Nycander on his latest book “Beyond the World Bank: The Fight for Universal Social Protection in the Global South”!\nWhen: February 3 at 9.15-11.00 CET \nWhere: CEMUS Library\, Geocentrum\, Villavägen 16\, see map here https://link.mazemap.com/gVZ978v2 \n\nIn the book “Beyond the World Bank: The Fight for Universal Social Protection in the Global South” Matthew Greenslade sheds some much-needed light on the damage being done by the World Bank’s insistence on pursuing a poverty-targeted approach to social protection in lower income countries. He also describes some of the successes in the grassroots fights for a more universal approach. All this is organized around the true story of Stephen Kidd\, an ex-missionary who cut his teeth fighting for indigenous land rights in Latin America\, then survived an assassination attempt\, and ultimately went on to be a leader in the global fight for universal social protection. \nRead the open access book here: https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/beyond-the-world-bank-9781350508828/ \n  \nMatthew Greenslade is an economist who has worked on social protection for twenty-five years inside and outside the UK government\, including in countries such as Kenya\, Nepal and Uganda. \n  \n  \nGunnel Axelsson Nycander is a policy adviser at Act Church of Sweden and has collaborated with Stphen Kidd for several years. Act Church of Sweden is the international work of the Church of Sweden. It defends people’s dignity and rights – through humanitarian and long-term development work\, church collaboration\, and advocacy. We work together with churches and actors from the civil society and belong to the ACT Alliance – Action by Churches Together.
