Portfolio Brainstorming and Portfolio Plan

In this step you’ll get started on your portfolio assignment. You can share your ideas, notes and plan in Studium or on Whatsapp.
We’ve created a basic checklist to go through, a kind of brainstorming session, remember to write down your ideas and plans, so you can refer back to them and update them if needed. Some questions connect back to previous steps completed earlier in the course.
- What do you want to learn in this course? Do you seek specific knowledge, know-how, practical skills, ways of working? Is it for a current job or studies? Or a future career, start-up, or business?
- What type of portfolio will you make? Digital only, digital and printed or created physically, using paper, materials, handwriting (scrapbooking or similar)?
- What type of online tools, computer programs, tech will you need? What type physical materials, communicative real-world tools, papers and notebooks will you need?
- What size format will it have? For printed and physical portfolios anything smaller than A5 (148×210 mm) or bigger than A1 (594×841 mm) is not recommended. For an online portfolio the size adjusts automatically.
- How will you make the text and visual elements (images, photos, graphics) clear, easy to understand, visually appealing and fun to read, use?
- How will you attribute other people’s work you build upon, research and references?
- Which outline will your portfolio have, considering the five points listed in the previous step? How will it make sense?
- Are there other aspects not mentioned in the bullet points above?
It’s important that you start gathering the digital and physical tools and materials needed for the portfolio as soon as possible, so that you can start collecting ideas, highlights and everything else you want to add. The journey matters more than the end product, and the end product doesn’t have to be perfect.
