Hi all, and welcome! Exciting to have this course starting Jan 24!!!
We meet at Ekmansalen, EBC, Jan 24 at 13:15-15:00. Many people asked if you can be online, and YES, you can! Use this link tomorrow and you can see the first session. https://sunet.zoom.us/j/139847651
I remind you all this is not a mandatory session. However, there will be interesting information about the course structure and how things will work. The website will be updated tomorrow for weeks 4-7. The other weeks will come up during the semester. All the reading and time is calculated for 20hs per week of work and will be given at least the week before.
You can find hard copies of the books at CEMUS Library (but you can’t borrow them, it is to read in the library) and at Geocentrum Library. Two of the books will also be available in the web library system: “What we think about…” and “Ecojustice Education”.
Assignments instructions coming up 1 week before the deadline. Groups will be formed for the last task and an individual assignment will be required at the end of the course to get a grade (3, 4, 5).
ALL THE RESERVES ARE ACCEPTED. If you want to join the course, sign in to Studentportalen and REGISTER to the course. You have by the end of next week to do so.

- 1. written assignments before and active participation in seminars (8 credits)
- 2. at the end of the course through written and oral presentation of a larger project work (7 credits).
The grade pass/fail is used for the first point for assignments and seminars. The Fail-3-4-5 grade used on the larger project work 7 credits and sets the grade for the full 15 credit course. Examination deadlines can be found in the examination schedule in the first column.

About the course
Climate change leadership is often mentioned in both news media and by politicians themselves, but what does it really entail? What kind of knowledge and skills define a climate change leader and how can they be learned? What kind of political, cultural and psychological resources are lacking in present initiatives?
This course discusses the fundamentals of an effective and functioning climate change leadership in a global perspective. Starting out from an analysis of how the climate has changed during the planet’s long geological history and how it plays a central role in the life of the biosphere, the course looks at why there is such a comparatively few effective responses to the issues we are facing. Then the societal and cultural effects of climate change are discussed, looking at how the use of fossil fuel has transformed modern societies and cultures and taking into account broader perspectives such as ethics, justice or gender. With the knowledge gained during the first part of the course, a framework for a working climate change leadership is critically looked at from a political, power and societal perspective.
The final part of the course is devoted to applying this framework in case studies, with the focus on both a global and local level, trying to identify different strategies for mitigation and adaptation in terms of a functioning climate change leadership.
